We offer the five creative therapies, including Art, Music, Play, Dramatherapy, Dance Movement Psychotherapy and talking therapies! So what should you expect when having arts therapies with us?

Arts Therapies are commonly misunderstood as creative workshops or lessons. The therapies we offer are highly regulated psychological interventions where creative activities are used throughout to support your therapeutic goals. Our sessions are typically offered in blocks of 12 sessions as this is a good amount of time to build trust with your therapist, though you can have more or less depending on your needs.

We offer affordable fees with means testing* available. Our sessions can be scheduled weekly, fortnightly, or monthly. We'll work with you to find a convenient location, day, and time.

We provide in-person therapy at our Birmingham and Redditch locations as well as offering online sessions. Our therapists provide services to clients in schools, colleges, care homes, assisted living facilities, and community settings nationwide as well as on a 1-1 basis.

The sessions last approximately 50 minutes, but we're open to adjusting the duration to suit your needs. Around the halfway point, we'll discuss the possibility of continuing therapy for another block of sessions.

*More information on our means testing application can be found on our online referral form.

What to expect

All therapy sessions are confidential, a safe space to express yourself and work through things without judgement or fear. During your first session you will unlikely touch on anything in depth (unless you want too), as this time is usually spent getting to know your therapist, discussing what brings you here, any goals you may have or any therapy and self-practice you have tried before that was helpful (or not). Each session will be tailored to you, your journey and your needs and the pace will be led by you. Arts Therapists are experts in non-verbal cues and will contain the space for you, therapy isn't an easy experience, and we know how to support you through this without going too quickly.

Arts therapy sessions can offer a unique way to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Here's what you might expect:

  •  You don't need to be a talented artist, musician, dancer or performer to attend arts therapy sessions. The focus is on the process and what comes from it over a skilled piece of work.

  • You might use art materials such as paint, clay, musical instruments such as a keyboard, drums, sand, or even digital tools.

  • Your therapist may provide prompts or suggestions to help you delve deeper into your thoughts and emotions.

  • Spoken words can often hold us back, the creative tools are helpful to be more free and intuitive- which brings the subconscious into your conscious allowing things to be worked on.

How does the “art” work in therapy

  • Some things are difficult to put into words or are hard to say, communicating through non-verbal ways helps you to say what you need too

  • Through the art-making process, you may gain new insights into yourself and your experiences as this is much more free-flowing than talking, the subconscious is reached more easily.

  • Creating gives you a second language but also promotes general well-being which supports emotional regulation, processing your thoughts and feelings in a tangible way.

  • Using the art-making as prompts where needed, you can then discuss this with your therapists to draw on meanings, and interpretations and discuss symbolism.

If you are ready to start therapy you can send us a referral form or contact us for any questions.
