Hi, my name is Emily! I work as a Dramatherapist, which is a type of creative arts therapy that involves talking but also has the added option of using drama techniques such as dramatic play, storytelling, movement, art-making and more, when it's especially hard to talk about it.

I work on Art Therapies UK Schools' programme, facilitating dramatherapy sessions, inputting into Educational Health Care Plans and upskilling staff at a school here in Birmingham. I also work as part of a clinical team in Staffordshire, facilitating dramatherapy, and providing training and input into care planning for children in residential care settings.

Adults and children may find it difficult to talk about how they feel or know how to express the feelings which may be causing emotional pain and anguish.

They may find it easier to use a nonverbal method of communication such as the use of art materials which may allow a connection between the client, the art object, and the therapist developing a therapeutic triangular relationship. Whilst reflecting on the image and taking part in a dialogue with the therapist, a person may discover and make sense of an experience that has previously been causing them distress and sorrow.

Art materials and the process of making art is a tactile, sensory way of helping someone to communicate difficult thoughts and feelings into becoming a tangible object that together, may be reflected upon, talked about and processed.

Art made by the client is not judged on aesthetic capability, to make a mark and the process of making art may help the client to realise uncomfortable subconscious thoughts which are then visualised and the emotional healing journey may begin .

Hello! I am a dedicated music therapist and have experience working in a variety of settings including mental health hospitals, schools, refugee centers, and care homes. My work is driven by a passion for exploring themes of identity and belonging, particularly through working with families and with an interest in intergenerational dynamics. Passionate about yoga and the embodiment of emotions, I often incorporate movement in sessions to support the nervous system. I am committed to practicing in a culturally sensitive and trauma-informed manner, ensuring that each individual's unique needs and backgrounds are respected and integrated into the therapeutic process.
