How does Arts Therapies UK differ from other Wellbeing sessions?

Firstly, Arts Therapies UK sessions are facilitated by a registered creative therapist, who uses their years of expertise to go beyond the recreational aspect of the activity to help the participants explore their emotions and their stresses.
All sessions are designed to be hands-on for the participants. The creative experience will encourage relaxation, self-expression and give them insights to take back to the workplace.
Sessions are for all; there is no need for anybody to be Van Gogh with the paintbrush. We provide an experience for all where the goal is expression, personal reflection, development, and to reclaim some time for themselves.
Research also shows that art therapy reduces cortisol and improves emotional regulation, and boosts problem-solving abilities, which standard wellbeing sessions may not provide the same level of therapeutic benefits.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What exactly is arts psychotherapy?
Arts Psychotherapy or Arts Therapy, is a form of therapy that works in the same way as counselling and psychotherapy, but with the added benefit of the art form. This means that there is something else to do in therapy sessions to compliment talking or to express yourself in a different way.
How do the art forms help with mental health?
There is extensive research about the impact of creativity on mental health. Studies of music therapy and art therapy show a genuine improvement in mental health, with a significant reduction in depression and anxiety. Arts therapies help people express emotions, reduce stress and boost wellbeing. They work because they help people connect, regulate emotions and build confidence – proving that they aren’t just “nice extras”, but powerful tools for prevention and recovery.
Is Arts Therapy suitable for adults and children?
Yes, we have art therapists who work with children in schools as well as with adults with acute mental health issues. We have play therapists who work with children using sand trays and adults who play video games. We have drama therapists who work with young people who use story to process a difficult bereavement or trauma, and adults who find it easier to talk or write about their story. We have a dance movement psychotherapist who encourages the bond between a mother and her baby by using body movement, and adults who want to feel like someone has seen them through body language.
How is Arts Therapy different from other types of therapy?
Your therapist is trained not only to use words in therapy but also to adapt the environment and the tools used to enable you to express yourself in different ways. The therapist is highly skilled and trained at looking at the materials or actions you produce and interpreting their meaning together with you.
